Health and Wellbeing
The team is led by the head of boarding and pastoral care, who works with heads of sections to co-ordinate outstanding levels of support for students and close communication between team members.
Professional development of our staff is an important way to ensure that our students receive the best possible care. Most recently some of our pastoral team have completed the ENSA Mental Health First Aid training course, ensuring that there is at least one trained mental health first aider in each boarding house.
Wellbeing
Our pastoral and boarding teams work hard to promote and support student wellbeing. We want our students to feel safe in their environment, supported when they struggle, and open to communicate their thoughts and feelings. We strive to ensure that all students know where they can access support when they are struggling and are confident that they will be able to find someone to help.
We believe in addressing key issues head-on, through informal discussions, talks and workshops, to provide our students with all the tools they need to make well-informed decisions. Targeted sessions with the school counsellor or a member of the pastoral team provide students with valuable strategies and advice on how to tackle some of their most common challenges.
‘Mood Check’ submissions on our students personal ‘Orah’ app (our boarding student engagement platform) allow them to take direct ownership of their emotional wellbeing. Through this app, our students also have access to a wealth of resources and support. Student mood checks are monitored by our teams in the houses so that early intervention can be offered to students if they have expressed signs that they might be finding things difficult.

Emotional Support
The well-being of our students is our top priority at the Lyceum Alpinum. We understand that the young people in our care face not only academic challenges but also social, personal, and psychological ones. To meet these diverse needs, we have established a new, qualified team of psychologists.
This team works confidentially and professionally to ensure that each student integrates successfully, is happy, and achieves their goals. Our school psychologists provide support not only in academic matters but also in holistic personal development. They coach students individually, helping them feel comfortable and supported in all aspects of their lives at the Lyceum Alpinum.
In one-on-one coaching sessions, the team offers guidance, prevention, and crisis intervention, always tailored to the individual needs of the students. Through close collaboration with the boarding houses, the health center, the class teachers, and the school administration, the psychology team ensures that students receive comprehensive support so that they can confidently and successfully pursue their path at the Lyceum.
Further information about our coaching services can be found on the page Education Service.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding relates to the actions undertaken by individuals and the school to both promote and protect the welfare of children. This is at the heart of our pastoral care provision. In an international boarding school setting, where children can be many miles away from home, safety and protection is our responsibility.
We are committed to providing a caring environment, instilled through a culture of openness and collective responsibility. We believe that all children have the right to learn in a safe environment and all our staff play a role in ensuring this happens. Staff are also on hand to listen to any concerns a pupil may have and will take prompt action to ensure the matter is addressed.
The school takes all allegations of safeguarding and bullying seriously and the Safeguarding team, led by the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), manage every concern. Our safeguarding team receives up to date training on all areas of Safeguarding, in line with current legislation. Safeguarding and pastoral matters are reviewed on a continual basis to reflect the ever-changing developments needed for effective practice.
