Boarding School Life
If you still think that life at a boarding school is lonely, elitist and a life of discipline and order, Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz may surprise you. Becoming an adult is probably the most exciting and challenging time of your life. Thus, it is all the more important that young people find stability in a strong community and have the freedom to grow. Due to the family-like, international character of our boarding school, our students mature into responsible, critically-thinking and self-confident individuals.
Our vision
Respect, openness and social responsibility are the pillars of boarding school life at Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. Students enjoy comfortable housing and have numerous common areas to easily make new friends and grow together as a family. An important goal of boarding school life is to develop a sense of responsibility for oneself and others. For this reason, daily life at the boarding school is actively shaped by the students.
Activity programme
We value variety. In students’ free time, they engage in a range of sports. And that’s just the beginning: there is a school band; there are theatre groups, such as “Shakespeare Company” and the “English Theatre Company”; projects and workshops; and lots of extra-curricular activities. Weekends include a wide range of programmes, as well. Ten weekends of the year are designated “Community Weekends”, where even more options are available: river rafting; mountain and sledge tours; fascinating museums; musicals; or theatres.
One big family
The Heads of House of the individual boarding school houses at Lyceum Alpinum take on a parental role and are available for their students around the clock. Whether it’s exam stress, homesickness or other issues – all children here at the boarding school can talk openly with their house parent about what’s on their minds. The family environment helps the student learn to assert themselves in a lively group and find their place in the community.
The Houses
Boys and girls are accommodated separately. The different age groups also have their own space so that they can have independence and feel more at home. All houses reflect the “Spirit of Zuoz” values: Respect, openness and fairness are indispensable prerequisites for successful coexistence in the boarding school houses of Chesa Cresta, Chesa Arpiglia and Chesa Urezza for the girls, as well as Spencer House, Kleinhaus and Grosshaus for the boys.
House Captains
Together with the Heads of Houses, the House Captains (student representatives) help their respective houses to organise boarding school life. This includes the sports programme as well as preparation for house matches and internal school team competitions. The Captains have the task of setting a good example and motivating their fellow students to become actively involved in the school.
Individual support
Education is our top priority. We ensure that each child is cared for through close cooperation with Class Teachers and dedicated boarding school teams. The school’s internal data management system provides additional information about students’ latest grades and any school-wide announcements that require a quick response. Parents also have access to this information wherever they are in the world. Private lessons and additional support courses are also available.

Community Weekends
Every four weeks or so a community weekend takes place at Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. These are weekends where all boarding school students stay on site and participate in various activities. The community weekends – as the name suggests – promote a sense of community among international students, while enabling each student to explore his or her interests. Day students are always welcome to participate in the activities.
Holiday Offers
During the holidays we offer a wide range of activities. This year includes two social projects in Malawi and Borneo as well as a sports and adventure trip to Lanzarote.
Services
Of course, being away from parents means that students at a boarding school live a life of independence, but this does not mean they have to do without the benefits of a family home. We provide a variety of healthy food choices at each meal. If a child gets injured or has a cold, our staff is right there for them with access to local doctors. The housekeeping team takes care of daily hygiene and cleanliness in the boarding school and even has a dedicated laundry department, while a school shop with a wide range of supplies and office supplies is also part of our service to students.
